Welcome to 2019 (can that really be right?)! It promises to be an interesting and unpredictable year, with the million euro question being what exactly does lie in wait for the UK? Well, who knows? And I mean that literally – no-one actually does appear to know what awaits us on the horizon regarding our imminent exit from the European Union. Answers on a postcard please (and, if they’re particularly innovative, you may want to CC the Houses of Parliament in too!).
Talking of which, the New Years Honours List was, of course, revealed recently, and alongside the likes of Michael Palin, Gareth Southgate and, er, Twiggy were, I was pleased to see a couple of representatives from the foodservice industry. Mark Hill, executive chef at the House of Commons, was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his services to Parliament and the catering industry; while Sherley Forde, catering assistant at the Cabinet Office, became a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire.
While some may be particularly frustrated by our Parliamentary representatives recently, well done to Mark and Sherley for doing the old institution, not to mention our industry, proud. Our congratulations go to them, along with a happy new year to all of our readers!
